Marquise “Hollywood” Brown Film Notes

Hollywood Brown

WR Oklahoma

5-11” 165lb

That’s not a typo, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is listed at 165 pounds. (The technical term is teeny weeny.) In spite of his size, Brown has rolled off consecutive 1,000 yard seasons, capped off by a 75 catch, 10 touchdown effort in 2018.

Brown is FAST— both before and after the catch, and he is able to run away from defenders. Brown has slightly above average hands and manages to catch the ball out away from his body. Brown’s deep game is fairly nuanced, but still predicated on speed to create separation.

His problems arise when there is any kind of physical contact. Brown avoids hits in a similar fashion to Brandin Cooks or John Ross, which is to say that he wants no part of it. He’s bothered at his release, in route, and at the catch-point by physical defenders. Brown’s size also makes him easy to tackle, and he’s susceptible to big hits when he gets caught.

The odds are stacked against Brown reaching a DeSean Jackson type ceiling, so letting someone else fall for that Hollywood hype is probably wise.
